Derrell “Slim” Weathers

Derrel “Slim” Weathers is a community organizer with Heal The Hood and Feed the Hood and the founder of the Heal the Hood Program. As a community member and organizer, Slim seeks to live his motto and “define ourselves for ourselves” by drawing on his lived experience as a survivor of the moral corruption that divides our society and helps people find paths toward self-determination. Moral corruption defines the systems of oppression that permeate our culture and environment and prevent our collective power, healing, and peace. As a survivor of violence, street life, and the criminal punishment system, Slim advocates for power to come from the pain; and for those who have suffered to be empowered. Through collective organizing and service efforts, Slim seeks to learn about, develop, spread, and share models for a more inclusive and equitable future and popularize them so that they take root and flourish in the next generations. As an entrepreneur, Slim advocates for independent ownership and building opportunities for generational wealth creation and true community control of institutions.
