Grow the Hood is a collaborative urban farming project focused on connecting people with an interest in food justice and farming of all levels.
Grow the Hood: Cultivating Food, Culture & Community
Grow the Hood is Heal the Hood’s bold urban gardening initiative that transforms underutilized land into vibrant, community-powered growing spaces. Designed for healing, nourishment, and connection, this project brings people together to grow food, share knowledge, and reclaim wellness—right in the heart of our neighborhoods.
What We Do
Grow the Hood is:
Building urban gardens on community-owned and secured land
Providing hands-on training in sustainable, Indigenous, and culturally-rooted farming practices
Increasing access to fresh, healthy food for local families
Offering workshops on food sovereignty, environmental justice, and holistic wellness
Training youth in land stewardship, leadership, and self-sufficiency
Creating spaces for healing, storytelling, and intergenerational knowledge exchange
Where We Grow
We’re planting roots in neighborhoods across Boston, beginning with pilot sites in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. Our goal is to expand into every community that desires access to fresh food and community gardens.
If you have land, want to volunteer, or hope to bring a Grow the Hood garden to your neighborhood—we want to hear from you!
Why It Matters
Food is more than nourishment—it’s medicine, culture, and resistance.
In a city where too many of our people face food insecurity, Grow the Hood is about reclaiming power, building local food systems, and teaching our youth how to thrive.
This isn’t just gardening—it’s liberation work.
